Former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has cleared the air over purported rift between him and the incumbent governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, saying it was a figment of imagination of those peddling such ‘rumour’.
He said the present government in the state was a product of his dynamic leadership and commitment to good governance, which brought about significant development in both human capital and physical infrastructure.
The former governor made the clarification on Sunday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, while speaking at a Ramadan Lecture organised to celebrate his 62nd birthday by a socio-political organisation, En-Route Rauf, with the theme: Leadership and Followership In Nigeria: The Islamic Perspectives.
He said: “Let me clear the air that there is no friction between me and the present government. The current government in the state came on board as a result of our unfettered commitment and efforts. We cannot but continue to pray for the progress of what we laboured and strived for.
“Oyetola is my elder brother, who is senior to me in all ramifications. He has achieved a lot in his personal life before having a stint at all in government. So, nothing could have caused any issue between us. Let our detractors know that there can only be peace within us and the state.”
Meanwhile, the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, who was a Guest Lecturer at the event, urged political leaders to be selfless and reliable for the purpose of making life meaningful for the downtrodden.
He highlighted attributes of a good leader to be patience, fear of God and ability to manage unexpected situations among others.
He copiously quoted from Quran 4v159 , which speaks about good governance and exemplary leadership, adding that Islam teaches that only realists who critique and commend government over action and inaction are the best followers.
“Since 1960, we have had Jackals, who do everything to destabilize the society; clueless leaders who tend to deter societal progress.
“Good leadership connotes patience, preparedness and the fear of God. These are what would prepare any leader ready to face his creator in the end,” Oloyede stressed.
