Dr. Umar Ard
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo, has criticised politicians from the state for campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan at a time some parts of the state are being controlled by Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, with the prevailing security situation, Adamawa State will be a ‘no go’ area for Jonathan in 2015.
Ardo, who is challenging PDP’s adoption of Jonathan to contest the 2015 presidential election at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, said they would vote against him in 2015 because he had failed to tackle the insurgency which had claimed lives and properties of hundreds of thousands of residents.
He said Jonathan should not expect any positive result despite the assurances of those politicians who had kept on deceiving him, saying the people would use their numerical strength to end their sufferings.
The PDP chieftain wondered how people whose ancestral homes had been taken away by insurgents and converted to Shekau’s Caliphate, could be the ones telling the president that they would win the state for him while their people who formed the voting population were currently residing in refugee camps.
Ardo stated that, already, many politicians from occupied areas may be disenfranchised in any electoral process, adding that if the trend was not resolved, people like Governor Bala Ngilari, Hajiya Zainab Maina, Mr. Boni Haruna, Ahmad Umaru Fintiri and host of others who were at the Eagle Square for Mr. President’s declaration would not vote.
He added: “Instead of them to concern themselves on the liberation of their home towns and working towards rejoining Nigeria, they are busy advocating about elections in which they have no votes.
“Our people are forced to re-think their allegiance to the governments of Nigeria. To us, this is what Jonathan’s presidency means in Adamawa State. Under this circumstance, how can we think of election?”, Ardo quipped.
