Appoint only incorruptible persons as Ministers – Group tells Buhari

The National Prayer Movement on Sunday in Abuja urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint as ministers only people of integrity and share in his vision of a better Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Gbemiga Olakunle, the General Secretary of the Movement.

“The President should look for selfless people who are trustworthy and will not use their position to completely enrich themselves at the expense of the masses.

“He should surround himself with people of like minds, who are vision builders or destiny helpers, who will help him translate the lofty dreams he has for the country into reality.

“The potential nominees should be men and women who fear God, and may God help him to choose wisely in Jesus name,’’ the Movement said.

It noted that there had been misconceptions by Nigerians that the President was pursuing a “Northernisation Agenda’’ due to his appointments so far.

“Their fear may be justified, especially in view of the fact that the present leadership structures in the other two arms of government have been taken over by the Northerners.

“But the onus now rest on Mr President to ensure that the issues of fairness and equity are brought to play in the composition of his cabinet and other subsequent strategic appointments,’’ the statement said.

It said the delay in Buhari making his ministerial appointments could be attributed to the yet to be fully resolved National Assembly leadership crisis.

The statement commended the President and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on their decision to slash their salaries by 50 per cent.

“It is a guiding light and a good leadership quality,’’ it said.

The Movement however urged federal legislators and state governors to emulate the good example of the President.

It also urged the President not to be disconnected from personalities and groups which assisted him to realise his dream and fulfill his destiny as Nigerian President.(NAN)
