A 32-year-old applicant, one Jimoh Ibrahim, was Tuesday, arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for sneaking into a retail shop to steal goods, while the shop owner was sleeping.
The accused of no fixed address was charged with theft contrary to Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji, had told the court that Ibrahim committed the offences on December 30 at Aina Street, Ojota, Lagos.
According to him, the accused unlawfully entered the shop of one Olubunmi Oyedele and stole her goods, including some clothes and shoes in a ‘Ghana must go’ sack.
“The accused entered the complainant’s shop while she was sleeping and stole her goods,” Raji confirmed.
“A neighbour, who sighted the accused when he sneaked into the complainant’s shop, raised alarm when she saw the accused sneaking out with a sack of the stolen items.
“The accused was arrested and the stolen items were recovered,’’ the prosecutor said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, T.O Shomade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10,000 with two sureties in like sum and subsequently adjourned the case till January 27, for hearing.
