The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it will not benefit the party if the call for the boycott of the Anambra governorship election by Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB works.
The state publicity secretary of the party, Okelo Madukife in a press release stated this while debunking allegations that it collaborated with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to call for the boycott of the election.
APC said it rejects the boycott call in its entirety because only the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would benefit from it.
Okelo said the speaker of Anambra Assembly being a member of APGA will be sworn in, in the event that the boycott works. He, therefore ,said that if any party colluded with the IPOB to call for the boycott, then it should be APGA, which he said are aware that they will not win the election.
Part of Okelo’s release described the call for boycott as, “a statement that lacks basis and for us in APC, it is an easy decision to reject the thoughtless pronouncement and urge Ndi Anambra to prepare to correct the grave error of 2013 called Chief Willie Obiano, an imposition made against real numbers.
“We reject the call from Nnamdi Kanu intoto and urge Ndi Anambra to come out en masse and vote in an APC Government to bring development to Anambra State with strong Central backing.
“Our party has an overwhelming support base, in Anambra State and it is still growing. Hence in the event of an election boycott, our support base will be eroded, and that remains unacceptable to us.
“November 18, 2017 governorship elections must hold peacefully, freely and fairly. It stands to reason that APC could not have collaborated with Nnamdi Kanu to occasion a boycott of elections as alleged by Emekesiri. Only APGA can, by virtue of the benefit illustrated above, play such a card, foreseeing the Obiano disaster.”
