The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Monday commenced its governorship campaign at Ekweme Square in Awka.
The party’s National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, who anchored the event, said it was time for the people of Anambra to vote for a worthy successor to Gov. Peter Obi.
Umeh also officially presented Chief Willie Obiano and his running mate, Dr Nkem Okeke, to the party faithful.
He said that the pair was the best among other contestants for the Nov. 16 governorship election.
He said that APGA remained the only party with sincere interest of the Igbos at heart, adding that Obi had used his mandate to enrich the lives of Anambra people.
Also, addressing the crowd, Chief Emeka Ojukwu (Jnr), said the party was united and determined to uphold the legacies of the late national leader of the party, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegu Ojukwu.
He reminded the crowd that the baton of leadership which his father handed over to Obi had to be extended to a worthy candidate in the person of Obiano.
Accepting the flag, Obiano said he was ready to take the state to greater heights, adding that it was time to do away with all agents of retrogression in the state.
Obiano used the opportunity to extend his hand of friendship to all those who contested for the party’s ticket with him.
He urged them to support his candidature and ensure that the party came out victorious at the polls. (NAN)
