APGA factional national chairman, Nwabueze Okafor dead

A factional national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor is dead.

In 2015, Okafor contested for Senate in Enugu East senatorial district under the platform of APGA but lost to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Senator Gil Nnaji.

Shortly after the election, Okafor was nominated as the APGA National Vice Chairman (south East) before he assumed the acting national chairman of the party when Ike Oye was suspended by the national executive committee of the party.

‎Rumour of his death spread across Enugu, his home state on Sunday afternoon.

‎Okpochengene, as Okafor is fondly called, passed on at Niger foundation hospital Enugu after brief illness.

‎His ally and political associate, the Assistant National Financial Secretary of APGA, Okecheckwu Nkolagu, who confirmed his death, said he (Okafor) died at about 8am on Sunday.

“He complained of weakness and was rushed to Niger Foundation where he lost the battle. May his soul rest in peace.

“You know he had suffered some illness when he was council chairman. Maybe the illness came back or something but I can tell you, I was informed he died this morning”, another source hinted.

Okafor became APGA’s leader following the suspension of the embattled National chairman, Chief Ike Oye.

He was also a former National President of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), and former Chairman of Enugu South local government council.
