The Abia state chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, has condemned the alleged kidnap of the Abia chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, by unknown gunmen on Monday night.
Recall that DAILY POST had reported on Tuesday, that the Police command in Abia state had confirmed the abduction of the chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, on Monday night.
SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), told newsmen that the command was aware of the incident.
But, Ehiemere in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Wednesday afternoon, frowned at the acts of criminality and called on his (Nwankpa) captors to release the politician unconditionally to enable him reunite with his family and associates.
The APGA chairman, however, called on “Security agents, especially the police should as a matter of urgent public safety beam their searchlight on known black spots in the state where chances of crimes and criminality are very high, so as to ensure that innocent citizens are not frightened by criminals, especially at this time of election”.
Parts of the statement reads, “The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia state, received with utmost sadness the news of the kidnap of the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Donatus Nwamkpa.
“APGA, to say the least, he feels very sad over this dastardly act that unjustly denies an innocent citizen his right to freedom of movement and subjects him, his family and friends to all forms of fear and psychological trauma.
“We also appeal to security agents to swiftly swing into action to ensure that Chief Nwamkpa is quickly freed from captivity.
“We are appealing to our youths, residents and owners of facilities that harbour kidnappers to desist from this heinous crime, rather all should join hands together to ensure that kidnapping and all other forms of criminality capable of presenting Abia and Abians in bad light are defeated in the interest of all”.
