The national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, has urged Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, to cancel the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in South-east states following alleged snatching of election materials by thugs believed to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Umeh further requested INEC to prosecute INEC officials and PDP agents for treasonable felony over what he called electoral terrorism and for not allowing the electorates in South-east to elect the candidates that will represent them at all levels of government in the country.
According to him, “If every time there is an election the Igbo people will not be allowed to elect their leaders, why we are still here, if they want war let them have it and break up the country because we are a people that have been held down for over 48 years now, the Igbo people have never been themselves.
“You will conduct election, people will win, you have the result sheet and they will go and change it today, in my ward I have collected all the 18 polling booths results, APGA won in all the polling booths, wait and listen may be tomorrow you will hear that we lost in my ward, in the last election I won here in all the polling booths with 2084 votes, but I heard that in the result they announced I lost in my ward,” he said.
Noting that there were reports of credible elections in the North and in the South-west, he said that the same cannot be said of the South-east where the governorship elections are not taking place in the states they are supposed to take place.
He said, “I will rather call on Prof. Attahiru Jega to cancel the governorship election in South East and arraign all the INEC officials and the PDP agents and prosecute them for treason, when you do not allow people to elect their leaders you are now taking power forcefully, and it amounts to treason, what they are committing in Igbo land is treasonable felony, and God will punish all of them”.
The APGA chairman, who alleged that a former governor of Anambra State was seen personally spearheading hijacking of electoral materials at Agulu, said: “He was not doing it through proxies, he personally hijacked electoral materials on 28 of March, the same thing they did in Nri, all in Anocha Local Government Area.
“We also got reports that some people went to Ozoubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area as early as 5am to carry the election materials and the Resident Electoral Commissioner has cancelled the election in the Local government Area, and it was done by the same PDP people,” Umeh said.
