The National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, unanimously appointed the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano as the national leader and chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees.
Obiano replaces Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra, who recently resigned from the positions and the party. Obi has since joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The NEC, which met in Abuja, also approved the appointment of a lawyer, Alexandra Amujiogu as the party’s acting Deputy National Secretary.
These were announced through a short statement by APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh after the party’s NEC meeting.
The statement reads: “At the end of the NEC meeting of APGA held on November 3 2014 at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, the NEC unanimously resolved as follows: to approve and adopt the APGA electoral guidelines for primary elections for 2015.
“Having regard to the resignation of Chief Peter Obi as the leader and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of APGA and his subsequent defection to the PDP and the vacancy created thereof in the office of the leader and Chairman of the BoT, the NEC unanimously appointed His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State, as the leader and Chairman of the BoT of the party.
“Pursuant to the mandate given on January 18 2014 by the NEC to the NWC to fill existing vacancies in the NWC, the NEC also appointed Alexander Amujiogu, a lawyer, as the acting Deputy National Secretary of APGA.”
