APC youths slam presidency, party stalwarts over Saraki

Youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Northern Nigeria have accused the presidency and leaders of the All Progressives Congress of masterminding the war of litigation facing the Senate President on his asset declaration, stressing that all Governors and Senators of the party should also declare their assets and the legitimacy of such declarations be probed.

Speaking yesterday in Kaduna, the group led by Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Umar lamented that contrary to the party’s claim of safeguarding internal democracy and upholding the party’s unity of purpose, the leadership of the APC has vehemently opposed Senate President, Bukola Saraki all in the name of fighting corruption.

‘’This is not the first time the Senate President, Bukola Saraki is holding public office. He has held several offices before now even as a Governor and sitting senator, but is it only now that the issue of corruption has raised against him, or will such issues have been raised if Bukola Saraki was in the good book of the party? Or is Saraki the only northerner that may have had skeletons in his cupboard? It is simply witch hunting and politics orchestrated by

those who are opposed to his Senate Presidency and simply a ploy to stop him from presiding over the senate that elected him,’’ he said.

Umar decried that, ”we the youths of the party did not voted for wars within us, we voted for a change devoid of hatred and witch-hunting, we voted for internal democracy, the party has not even exhausted the internal mechanism for settlement, this act is capable of putting our best hands off the party, leaving us at the mercy of the opposition.

The party leadership should also compel all senators and Governors in APC to declare their asset and should also probe the legitimacy of such declarations. This is a deadly move by our party because it might deepen the gap existing in the broken walls of the party.’’

The group also rebuked the claim by some northern youths calling for the resignation of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, ‘’the group is

ignorant of the politics of the country hence it is clear that there are some elements within the party that are bend to ensure they ridicule the senate president and also stand on his future as a political leader in Nigeria. All we are saying past governors and present National Assembly members should publicly declare their assets for the interest of the change the present administration is clamoring for in order to ensure total transformation in the scheme of things,” the youths observed.
