Youths in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have cautioned the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) over the elongation of the tenure of the incumbent leaders at all levels by one year.
The youths, who are operating under the aegis of Forum of Young APC Stakeholders, also vowed to convene a congress to state their position on the controversial tenure elongation in order to ensure that the party survives beyond 2019.
The spokesperson for the group, Mathias Obekpa, who addressed journalists after a closed door meeting held in Abuja yesterday, urged the party leaders to respect the constitution of the party over the tenure elongation issue.
“The power to extend the tenure of party executives is vested with the convention and not the NEC according to the APC constitution.
“We will continue to show interest in the affairs of a political party that came to power through our votes,” he said.
Already, some APC members including a National Leader of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have protested the decision to extend the tenure of APC NEC members which they said usurped the function of the APC national convention.
