The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa has assured all aspirants contesting for positions in the upcoming local government elections in the state of a level playing field.
Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, Vice Chairman of the party in the state, gave the assurance while addressing newsmen after a meeting of the State Working Committee of the party in Yola on Monday.
He said that the committee was committed to free and fair primaries for all aspirants.
“The State Working Committee of the party urged all aspirants for the local council election to embrace peace in their campaign,’’ he said.
Abdullahi said that the committee also adopted the list of party executives from state, local governments and ward levels sent from the National Headquarters for the purpose of the party primaries.
He also said that the committee had resolved that the positions of those who engaged in anti-party activities, defected or died would remain vacant during the primary elections.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Committee for the sale of nomination forms for the elections, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan, has said that so far 127 aspirants bought forms for the local council polls.
Lawan said 35 aspirants, including two women, bought forms for chairmanship while 92 comprising, two women and one physically challenged, obtained forms for councillorship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the form for chairmanship is sold for N550,000 including expression of interest while that of councillorship goes for N150,000.
NAN also reports that women and physically challenged aspirants were given forms free of charge and are only expected to pay f expression of interest fee. (NAN)
