The publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress(APC), in Abia State, Comrade Benedict Godson has warned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the State against continued vandalization of campaign billboards belonging to some of the party’s chieftains in various senatorial zones in the state.
Godson, who spoke with DAILY POST in a phone interview on Tuesday evening, expressed sadness that the PDP was still indulging in what it termed ‘malignant politics’.
According to him, “In Abia North, precisely in Bende LGA, billboards belonging to Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and Barrister Ben Kalu were destroyed by suspected PDP hired thugs. Also in Abia South, Sir Marc Wabara’s billboards were pulled out in the name of tax force. We have tried to reach the tax force chairman and they kept saying he’s in Abuja.
“This is not good politics. Abia does not need this now. People should learn to be politically tolerant. They should allow electorates decide who will lead. We are in democracy. The election is next year, but they are already restless. They’re jittery and they chose vandalizing of our billboards.”
The party’s spokesman, equally used the medium to distance the Abia APC from the comment attributed to a former Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the party, Chief Sam Nkire, where he publicly endorsed the state Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for second term in office.
“What manner of hypocrisy is that? We will advise him to reduce his level of propaganda and say things that are people-oriented. He should use his position as an elder to speak for poor Abians not converting it for political sycophantic practices,” he said.
Meanwhile, as of the time of this report, efforts by DAILY POST to speak with Mr. Don Ubani, the state publicity secretary of PDP was unfruitful.
