The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has hailed the Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki and Kwara State Governor, Abudulfatah Ahmed for dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Secondus said that democracy was the huge beneficiary from the actions of the Senate President and the Kwara State Governor because the on-going political realignment would help to deepen democracy in the country.
He noted that the duo were abnitio not supposed to be in APC but having been there due to a circumstance, events in the ruling party since 2015, does not encourage democrats like Saraki and Ahmed to continue retaining their membership of such “undemocratic body”.
A statement by his spokesman, Ike Abonyi, Tuesday night read: “Saraki is hero of our current democracy having gone through all the humiliations in defence of legislative independence, freedom and rule of law.”
“They have done everything to humiliate and cow him into submission but he did not yield as he defended democracy all through
“Dr Saraki and his colleagues in the parliament tried their best to curtail the dictatorial tendencies of the executive and it was for that they are being hounded.”
Secondus urged other democrats still staying in APC, to note that democracy would be better served by their exit as “Nigerians were very well determined to not only save our democracy but indeed the country.”
He assured all lovers of civil liberty and rule of law in the country that “the rebranded and repositioned main opposition PDP is now well disposed to provide direction for the sustenance of the nation’s democracy.”
