The All Progressives Congress, APC, has clinched all the positions in the last Saturday’s Local government elections in Rivers State.
The APC won all the Chairmanship positions in twenty-two Local government areas where the elections were conducted in the state.
Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Professor Augustin Ahiaozu said elections were conducted in a free and fair atmosphere in all parts of the state.
Professor Ahiaozu further said APC won councilorship positions in two hundred and ninety-seven wards with ACD, PPA, SDP and PDC winning in other wards in four different Local government areas of the state.
The Chairman of RSIEC thanked the security operatives and the adhoc staff, who ensured that the council polls were credible.
“The elections were held without any glitch, without report of violence that used to characterize elections in Nigeria.
“The Chairmanship elections were won by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in all the 22 Local government areas.
“Our adhoc staff did not give us any disturbing report. We thank the security for living up to expectation”, he said.
Meanwhile, RSIEC said a comprehensive voters’ register certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was used for the elections.
Ahiaozu gave the clarification while answering questions from newsmen.
He said the voters’ register was a public document that could be accessed by any interested persons.
