The tussle over the leadership of Nigeria’s National Assembly is arguably the first storm in the tea cup of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Since last week when the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) resolved to conduct primaries to select its official candidates for the positions of Senate President and House of Representatives Speaker, the rancour has become public knowledge.
DAILY POST recalls that the primaries had produced Senator Ahmed Lawan and Senator George Akume as sole candidates for the positions of President and Deputy Senate President of the 8th Senate respectively.
Similarly, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila defeated Hon. Yakubu Dogara, polling 154 votes out of 182 votes.
In a bid to resolve the crisis the outcome has generated, APC Governors and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, called separate meetings on Monday to find a workable solution.
But DAILY POST Monday night received a text message by an APC lawmaker loyal to Dogara stating that they would not attending any parley whatsoever aimed at making them change their ground.
It reads: “We received text messages from the party informing us of a meeting with the Vice President today; however, we see no difference between the Vice President and those trying to impose leaders on the House of Representatives, so we would not be attending.”
A source privy to the meeting also confided in DAILY POST that no loyalist of Dogara has been seen around the venue of the meeting still in progress in Abuja .
