Anslem Ojezua, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has assured that peace will return to the state house of assembly.
He gave the assurance following the fracas that occurred on the floor of the chamber on Monday.
Some members impeached Justin Okonoboh and elected Kabiru Adjoto as the new speaker after violence sparked in the chambers.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday after meeting Governor Godwin Obaseki, Ojezua confirmed ongoing consultations to ensure that Adjoto’s election conformed with party’s power sharing arrangement.
He said the change of leadership was nothing new as the national assembly has had similar changes.
“We sought to find out if there were fundamental issues that led to the impeachment between yesterday and today.
“But we have found out that there are none, but personal differences among members of the house,” Ojezua said.
“Everybody has accepted that a change of leadership has occurred, but it is not over yet. Talks are ongoing to address the issues,” he added.
Adjoto representing Akoko Edo constituency 1, is the fourth speaker to be elected in the assembly since 2015.
