A group known as Movement for the Actualization of Egalitarian Society, MAES, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva of planning to destabilize the state, an attempt meant to avoid defeat in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
According to a statement by the group Spokesperson, Femi Lawson, the APC planned to destabilise the election in the state by using the security agents to hijack power irrespective of the outcome of the governorship election, as it was clear to the party it would lose woefully to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, which had been on the ground since 1999.
The statement alleged that “The reality is hitting them daily in spite of their grandstanding and empty propaganda. Timipre Sylva is now jittery. A recent poll conducted revealed that the party cannot muster more than 17 per cent of the votes in Bayelsa State. Yet, the party is determined to squander several billions of money belonging to Nigerians, on the white elephant project of ‘capturing’ Bayelsa State at all cost.
“It should, however, be noted that these desperate men are becoming a serious threat to the Nigerian polity. They are, obviously, no longer planning for elections but how to destabilise the state. They plan to release fake exit polls announcing APC victory before INEC would release the official results and thereby, cause violence.”
The group’s spokesman further alleged that the APC plans to coerce the people of the state to participate in the rigging plans by using security apparatus in the state.
Lawson also urged the people to be vigilant and shun the antics of the APC in the state, even as it called on the international community to be on the watch out for the evil plan of the APC as it affects the forthcoming Bayelsa governorship poll.
