Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has observed that the reason why unity has eluded Nigeria was because state actors have been “busy fighting themselves”.
Speaking yesterday when he played host to members of the Buhari Campaign Organisation from his home state of Bauchi, Dogara called for oneness, stressing that “A house divided against itself cannot stand. I pray that we invest in unity and not just talk about it.”
The Speaker’s media aide, Turaki Hassan quoted him as appealing to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to avoid actions that could make the party lose the goodwill that it is enjoying at the moment.
He also quoted Dogara as telling his partymen that there is no alternative order than they working towards delivering on their campaign promises, stressing that “We have to utilise these offices to change the living conditions of our people. It is our responsibility to translate that to better the lives of the people and if we can’t do that, we cannot blame President Muhammadu Buhari for that.”
The Speaker went on to state that “Our people sincerely believe that change is possible … they will reject us if we fail to deliver, that is why you must work hard to deliver change. If we fail this time around, I don’t think we can ever have change in our life time. Now is the time to truly transform this country.”
