A member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bayelsa State Chapter, Comrade Andrew June was on Saturday killed by thugs suspected to be the Peoples Democratic Party’s supporters.
The incident is coming just few days after political parties in the state signed the Peace Accord initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the December 5 governorship poll in the state.
The incident occurred in the Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of the State.
June, was said to have been ambushed by some suspected PDP thugs at Oweigbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the State.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, Astimin Butswat, said June’s death led to a reprisal attacksby APC supporters who went about burning houses belonging to PDP members in the area.
According to him,” One person was killed in a clash in Ekeremor.But I don’t know their political affliations. The clash was between thugs or cult related clash but investigation is ongoing to determine the status of the fight.”
Family of the deceased, while reacting to June’s death alleged that he was killed by a mob of PDP supporters who were sponsored by a PDP chieftain, Chief Alex Ekiotenne.
It was learnt that the deceased alongside several APC supporters who sustained various degrees of injuries were ambushed at Toru-gbene community after an APC rally in Ekeremor town, Ekeremor Local Government Area on Wednesday.
