APC lawmakers to Fayose: “You’re encouraging brigandage, hooliganism in Ekiti”

The All Progressive Congress, APC, members in the Ekiti State House of Assembly say the state has come under a reign of terror and impunity under Governor Ayodele Fayose.

In an open letter to the governor, dated November 18, 2014, the lawmakers, through their lawyer, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, told the governor to respect the doctrine of separation of powers in the interest of peace in the state he governs.

Their demand is against the backdrop of the running battle between them and Fayose since he assumed office.

The lawmakers’ letter reads in part: “We are further told that you encourage brigandage and hooliganism everywhere, preferring government of the unruly and the violent.

“Further, you encourage your loyalists in the House to disrespect the House leadership and its rules.

“You encourage minority members to sit regularly in total violation of the standing order of the House and the Constitution and under the protection and your own controlled security and unconstitutional use of arms, worse than the history of the past in our land.

“We are again informed that you intend or have started to usurp House authority insisting that separation of power has no meaning in your administration.

“For example, you want to determine how and when the matters referred to the Ekiti State House of Assembly by your administration would be passed.

“Ekiti State House of Assembly has now reached a point where it is now afraid of the security of its members, because you want the rule of force to prevail throughout the state”.

They further cited what they referred to as invasion of the hallowed chamber of the House by 7 minority PDP legislators on November 17, 2014 under heavy police protection and the “unconstitutional decisions” taken as a confirmation “that the rule of terror and impunity now prevails under your administration”.
