APC kicks against Obiano’s celebration of 2nd year in office, demands date for LG elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State never to celebrate his two-years in office next week as various structures of the state are still in total shambles.

It alleged that the governor didn’t need to celebrate as he was yet “to separate the judiciary from the executive, yet to allow Anambra State have a legislature without interference and yet to allow Anambra State vote for their leaders at the local government level.”

The APC Publicity Secretary in Anambra State, Okelo Madukaife who stated this on Wednesday in a statement in Awka, claimed that the monies of the State were being wasted in Awka on patronage of a political party.

APC further questioned why Anambra had not been listed as an oil producing state as promised by Obiano and demanded that local government election be conducted before March 17, 2016, within the 21 local government areas, including Ihiala and Nnewi North.

It warned Governor Obiano to sit up to the challenges of the next two years instead of warming up to celebrate his two years in office on March 17, 2016.

“Nothing short of full reconstitution of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) board and management and full preparedness for Local Government elections will be acceptable to the citizens of Anambra State.

“Nothing short of the full statement of account of the N75bn reportedly bequeathed to this government audited and published in advertorial format, will suffice prior to any celebrations.

“Nothing short of the shaping up or shipping out of the Anambra State House of Assembly to signal that the House of Assembly is now ready to play its constitutional role will go down well before the expected wasteful celebration.

“Government Caretaker Committees, will not be enough for this historical state. To make matters worse, the judicial workers and judicature are below standard in welfare packages, thus unduly exposing them to temptation”, Anambra APC stated.

The APC Publicity Secretary further appreciated Civil Society Organisations in the State for filling the yawning gap left by the absence of an effective House of Assembly and hoped that their current strides would pay off with good governance in fullness of time.
