The All Progressives Congress has inaugurated its committee, which will be responsible for harmonising its position on restructuring of the country.
The committee, which is headed by the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was inaugurated by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, in Abuja on Thursday.
Oyegun said that the committee, which he termed ‘true federalism,’ formed one of the core negotiating points by the political parties that merged to form the APC.
He added that this was the reason that the constitution of “our great party and its manifesto dwelled extensively on the promise of ‘true federalism’.
“It is, therefore, incongruous that our party will renege on our solemn commitment to the institutionalisation of true federalism in our national political life.”
He said the job of the committee was important, especially in the light of the renewed clamour for restructuring, devolution of power, fiscal federalism and resource control.
