George Akume
Ahead of the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State slated for Friday, DAILY POST has gathered that there is palpable fear in the town among aspirants following the feelers that the ex governor, George Akume has settled for retired permanent secretary in the state civil service, Audu Akange.
Akume, a serving senator, reportedly made this decision after a close door meeting with some party big wigs in Abuja.
A competent insider disclosed that Akange would be ‘ceremonially’ elected as the party’s flag bearer pending the outcome of the primaries of the PDP next week.
It was gathered that Akange would eventually step down for former Minister of Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom should he lose the ticket during the PDP primaries.
It was widely reported that former minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Samuel Ortom had concluded plan to pitch his tent with the APC since he was told that there was ‘nothing for him’ in the ruling PDP.
DAILY POST has observed that the outgoing governor, Gabriel Suswam had publicly declared his support for the former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Terhemen Tarzor as his successor, making it difficult for Ortom to carry the day.
DAILY POST reports that Ortom has being under pressure to step down for his Tiv brother, Tarzor but the threats and pleas fell on rocky ground as the ex minister vowed to see the end of the battle.
Aside Akange, other aspirants jostling for the APC ticket include, 2011 guber flag bearer of the ACN in the state, Steve Ugba and the immediate past Head of Service (Benue State), Michael Iordye.
Others are: a serving member of the House of the House of Representatives, Barrister Emmanuel Jime.
This development has made the clamour for power shift to Idoma territory, otherwise known as Benue Zone C in 2015 a ‘mission impossible.
