Enugu State chapter of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, has called on the promoters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to exclude the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, from the new opposition alignment.
The Enugu group advised the APC to cut off what it called “the leprous hands of the All Progressives Grand Alliance,” as it is capable of undermining the good intentions of the opposition.
A statement signed by Adonys Igwe, Cgairman and John Nwobodo, secretary of Enugu CNPP , read, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
“The crisis in APGA does not make it fit to be part of the process at this time. And the elements that want to participate in merger may have to join the merger as individuals and not hoodwink APGA into it.
“They ought to know that unanimity is indispensable. In the face of loud dissent from the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, elected representatives on the platform of the party, a section of APGA cannot lawfully and legitimately consummate any merger with the other political parties.”
It called on APC promoters to distance themselves from the APGA “at least for now and go ahead to give Nigerians that true platform they have been yearning for.
“Nigerians will not forgive the promoters if they fail to realise the merger and this have to be done with great speed”.
They described the birth of the APC as “a tonic for rescuing the oppressed Nigerians from the iron rule of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
They lamented that the country was gradually eclipsing into economic oblivion due to the PDP’s 14-year reign at the helm of affairs, urging APC members to ensure that they dethroned PDP in the next general elections.
While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission for weeding out what they called “docile political parties”, they noted that INEC had not done a thorough job yet.
“We expect them to de-register in one fell swoop all the political parties that are in default of the Electoral Act 2011 (as amended) and stop this piecemeal de-registration,” the party said.
