Reps Speaker, Yakubu Dogara-led faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has boycotted the state congress of the party held in Bauchi state on Saturday.
Bauchi APC gubernatorial aspirant, Captain Bala Jibrin exclusively told DAILY POST in Bauchi that the action of the faction is aimed at rescuing the party from further sliding.
Jibrin hinted that their decision to boycott the state congress followed alleged irregularities witnessed at all the congresses held earlier.
“We have already filed an interlocutory injunction in court stopping the Saturday state congress and that informed our decision to boycott the congress today. However, we are waiting for the court’s determination based on our stand for the nullification of the illegal congress if eventually conducted by Governor Abubakar and his agents,” said Jibrin.
DAILY POST reports that during the Saturday’s state congress of the APC, all the erstwhile executives of the party were returned unopposed to continue in office.
At the venue of the congress, no member of Speaker Dogara’s faction was seen participating in the exercise.
It would be recalled that Dogara’s faction of the APC had kicked against the congresses and called for nullification, describing them as undemocratic.
DAILY POST gathered that already, there is a court injunction stopping the state APC congress in Bauchi state filed by Dogara and nine others at an Abuja Federal High Court.
Jibrin had warned that the APC may be counting its days in Bauchi state ahead of the 2019 elections, if the illegal congress is not addressed squarely.
“There were no congresses in Bauchi state from what happened when Abubakar appeared to have hijacked the APC and we cannot accept it,” Jibrin held.
