An Enugu State High Court sitting in Agbani, Thursday, refused to grant an ex parte order seeking to stop the State Congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC, scheduled to hold on Saturday.
A member of the party, Deacon Okey Ogbodo had approached the court, praying it to halt the congress and to also stop the State Chairman, Barr. Ben Nwoye from taking part in the exercise.
Apart from Nwoye, the APC was also joined as a respondent in the suit.
However, the court presided over by Justice A. R. Ozoemena declined the prayers. He ordered that the defendants must be put on notice and adjourned the matter to June 7 for definite hearing.
When DAILY POST sought Nwoye’s reaction on the development, he said “those elements of PDP, who want to destabilise the APC’s ongoing peaceful congresses in Enugu State have been put to shame by the judgement rendered today by Hon. Justice A.R. Ozoemena.
“The court refused to do the injustice they wanted from it. So, once more, I hail the judiciary for living up to its responsibility of doing justice to the common man.”
DAILY POST reports that this is coming barely 24 hours after stakeholders of the party in the State passed a vote of confidence on Nwoye and endorsed him for another term in office.
Chairman of all the local government chairmen of the party in the State, who is the chairman of Oji River, Mr Ifeanyi Chukwu Eze said that the party was happy with Nwoye’s performance, adding that the people were proud of him as a worthy ambassador of the party in the State.
“The party has been doing well in the state because of the state chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye. The whole ward chairmen and local government chairmen have passed vote of confidence on him, to be re-elected as the state chairman.
“We are proud of him, all the party faithful are behind your re-election to allow APC take over all the political positions in the state”, Eze stated.
Earlier, Nwoye, who is seeking re-election pointed out that his administration made the state ruling party to realise that there was opposition in the state.
Nwoye said that his effort in the party made those that mattered in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, like former senate president, Dr. Ken Nnamani, former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan chime, former speaker of the state, Eugene Odo and many others to defect to the APC.
He pleaded with them to re-elect him as the state chairman to allow him accomplish his promises, which included to elect the next governor of Enugu as well as senators from APC.
“I have done a lot to the party but have not completed my mission which is to turn Enugu State government to APC government.
“I want the party to re-elect me as the state chairman of the party to complete my work as the chairman. I have turned all the big wings of PDP to join APC and have plans to turn the state to APC state”, Nwoye said.
Condemning those who he said were being used by the PDP to destroy all his effort in building the party, Nwoye disclosed that Deacon Okeh Ogbodo, who applied to contest the for the position of state chairman, is not a member of the party.
He said that Ogbodo would soon face legal justice for forgery and mutilation of name to contest for state chairman under the umbrella of APC party.
“I want to use this opportunity to tell all those being planted by PDP to contest for state chairman to destroy APC that we won’t allow it happen,” he said.
