APC chieftain tasks INEC on continuous voters’ registration in FCT

The State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), FCT, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to begin the continuous voters’ registration exercise in the Federal Capital Territory preparatory to the local government council elections in the first quarter of 2016.

He made this call while interacting with newsmen during the flag off of sales of Nomination and Intent forms for aspirants for the FCT Council elections at the party’s office in Abuja.

Abdulmalik noted that the Federal Capital Territory was one of the fastest growing city in the world in terms of human and infrastructures, noting that, the influx of people into the territory as a result of insecurity in some parts of the country, as well as those looking for greener pastures, had made the last statistics of voters unrealistic.

“You know FCT is the fastest growing city among cities of the world and the influx of people as a result of insecurity and other factors has made it necessary for INEC to update voters’ registration”, he maintained.

“INEC had sometime ago in a meeting with political parties and other stakeholders told us that they would capture those who have relocated to the FCT but since then we have not heard anything from them again and FCT election will soon take place”, he added.

He expressed optimism that the change that had taken place at the centre would be consolidated in the forthcoming council elections in the FCT, while decrying the under-development of satellite towns in the 16 years of PDP administration.

He said, “we are going into this election with passion to consolidate on the change that took place at the centre and if you go into satellite towns and interiors, you will be saddened by under-development in the last 16 years that PDP ruled the six area Councils”.

Meanwhile, the State FCT Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Engr. Adaji Usman said the party was closely working with security agencies to ensure that there was no break down of law and order during and after the elections.

He added that the city, which was gradually becoming a flash point of insecurity, remained a source of concern to all, stressing that everybody should get involved in security by always watching and reporting whatever looked suspicious.

“We are conscious of insecurity in the city which has become a flash point in the recent time, but people should get involved in security by watching and reporting suspicious moves and motives”, he maintained.
