An All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Salele has dumped the party alongside 16,000 others for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Salele, who announced their defection in Bauchi, stated that the APC lacks internal democracy and is a party formed on deceit. He stressed that the non conduct of proper congresses as well as the recent primary elections in the state informed their decision to defect to the PDP.

“APC is no longer a party that Nigerians should support in 2019 election because of the impunity and lack of justice to its supporters especially in the recent primary election in the state where it failed to conduct the exercise instead only stooges were favoured,” he said.

Salele disclosed that most of the defectors were from Danbam/Misau and supporters of Ahmed Yerima, the Reps member representing the areas.

He described APC as a threat to democracy given the irregularities trailing primary elections conducted by the party.

The defecting APC chieftain maintained that plans have reached advanced stage to mobilise voters against the ruling party in 2019 due to the lack of justice.

While receiving the decampees in Bauchi, the PDP state chairman, Akushe Akuyam expressed delight, describing their defection as timely to help his party unseat the ruling APC during the 2019 election.

“I am impressed with the defection of the APC supporters to PDP today. However, we are still expecting more defectors following the injustice noticeable in recent APC primary elections across the country,” Akuyam said.
