Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, boycotted the National Conference owing to their insincerity about bringing positive change to Nigerians.
The President who made this declaration in Benin City, the Edo State capital, in the course of his campaign in the State consequently advised Nigerians not to be deceived by the opposition party’s call for change, describing it as a deceit.
While promising to build a Construction Technology Institute in Edo State for the youths to learn different trades, he recalled that “In 2011, we came here and you voted for us and within these past four years, we did not disappoint you. We are building our Construction Technology Institute in Edo State to take care of young people who want to develop their talents and skills in the construction industry.
“We are talking about transformation not change. Change takes place everyday.
“APC boycotted the constitutional conference, so how do they intend to change Nigeria. They are deceiving Nigerians but don’t allow any body to deceive you. The only party that will make Nigerians happy is the PDP,” the president claimed.
This came as the PDP Board of Trustees’ Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, insisted that the people of the South-south will not opt for a tyrant, but will re-elect President Jonathan whom, he said, has done well for Nigerians and is a blessing to the South-South.
According to Chief Anenih, “One thing is certain, the people of the South-South will not vote for a tyrant. They will not vote for autocracy, they will not vote for somebody who has no respect for human dignity. Mr President, I want to tell you that the entire South-South will give you full vote that there will be nothing left for the opposition.”
In his remarks at the rally, Vice President ,Namadi Sambo beckoned on Edo people to vote for an educated president, pledging that Jonathan will site more projects in the South-South if re-elected.
Meanwhile, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State refused to welcome the President when he landed at the Airport in his State. As at the time President Jonathan touched down at the Benin Airport, Oshiomhole was campaigning at Edo North senatorial district of the State. Most of the APC members serving in the State government also boycotted the rally.
