Lawmaker representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, Hon Segun Adekola has described as uncharitable, call by faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders loyal to Senator Bola Tinubu for the resignation of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the House of representatives Deputy Speaker, Hon Lasun Yusuf.

Hon Adekola said positions being occupied by Senator Ekweremadu and Hon Lasun Yusuf were not the exclusive preserve of any political party.

He said; “it is the rights of the National Assembly members to elect their leaders and that they have done by electing Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Hon Yakubu Dogara and Hon Lasun Yusuf as Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.”

“Section 50 (1) (a and b) of the 1999 Constitution provides Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker and a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves.

“That portion of the constitution did not stipulate political party of any member shall form basis for qualification for the offices.

“Therefore, call by a faction of the APC for the resignation of Senator Ekweremadu and Hon Yusuf is mere noise-making because members of the National Assembly have chosen the leaders of the two chambers of the House in accordance with the 1999 constitution.”
