The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC has raised the alarm that the Rivers State Government has allegedly set aside the over N5 billion to fund a campaign of calumny against the leader of the party in the state, Rotimi Amaechi.
The Deputy National Secretary of the party, Oji Ngorfa stated this while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, adding that allegations of corruption against Amaechi were sponsored by the present government in the state.
Ngorfa insisted that the allegation of misappropriation, mismanagement of state infrastructure and poor handling of power projects, Risonpalm, Olympia Hotel, and Supabod among others are all false.
According to him, the campaign against former Governor Amaechi is intended to portray him in bad light before President Mohammadu Buhari, adding that the sum of N5 billion was budgeted for the cause.
The APC deputy scribe also disclosed that Rivers State owned assets were not sold but leased out.
He appealed to the Governor Nyesome Wike administration to focus on the task of governance instead of embarking on a pull down project.
According to Ngorfa, “The documents they need on all the issues are right there with them. What baffles me is that they chose deliberate purveyors of lies because they want to smear the reputation of Amaechi.
“We want them to know that it is a fruitless effort. All the attempt to smear Amaechi’s name will amount to hollow ritual. They are wasting Rivers resources on this fruitless adventure.
“We are aware that the government is spending well over five billion in this campaign of calumny. Money that would have been used to solve developmental problems of Rivers people are being used for chasing shadows.
“Hotel Olympia was not sold, Pabod was not sold, Risonpalm was not sold, they were all leased and they will operate after they revert to the property of Rivers State after making them effective from how moribund they have been.
