The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, Mrs Rita Maduagwu to immediately resign.

The party alleged that under her watch, the Assembly looked the other way when N1.2bn was withdrawn, monthly, as security vote by Governor Willie Obiano.

The opposition APC in the state asked the governor to return to the treasury money illegally paid to him as his security vote and tender unreserved apology to the people of the state.

A statement released, yesterday, by the state publicity secretary of the party, Okelo Madukaife, said that the call for the speaker’s resignation would allow new speaker to recover money illegally collected by the governor.

“The confirmation by the Minority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Onyebuchi Offor, that Governor Willie Obiano withdrew from state treasury, the sum of N1.2bn, monthly, as his security vote has remained without a response from the government for two working days,” the statement said.

Speaking in a live radio programme on Blaze 91.5 fm Radio, the legislator representing Ekwusigo State Constituency also revealed that Mrs Ebele Obiano, wife of the governor, was also illegally withdrawing N250m per month.

“These actions, according to Offor, were approved by Anambra State House of Assembly in a session in which he claimed “to have objected to these wasteful allocations.”
