APC accuses Gov. Emmanuel of instigating crises in Akwa Ibom to divert attention

The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has accused Governor Udom Emmanuel of being behind the crisis bedevilling the state in recent times.

It claimed that such was the governor’s ploy to divert people’s attention from criticizing his incapability to pilot the affairs of the state.

The Chairman of APC in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ini Okopido, who said this at a press conference on Thursday at the party’s Secretariat in Uyo, noted that the people of the state have known better than such antics by Gov. Emmanuel.

According to him, “We have, however, reliably learnt that the governor orchestrated a political crisis to take attention away and divert public discourse from the fact he has achieved very little or nothing in the last three and half years.

“His administration has earned well over One Trillion Naira since he took over in May, 2015. This huge amount comes from FAAC, IGR, refunds from the Federal Government and other sources.”

Okopido said that despite the huge resources in the state, governor Emmanuel had failed to engage in monumental and meaningful projects, noting that he would be the only governor in Akwa Ibom to leave office without a legacy-important structure that could be named after him.

He further alleged that the governor has been good at organising women and the youths to stage protests at slightest reason but had failed to pay scholarship bursaries to students, create jobs for the youths or refurbish the Akpanandem Market for the women to ply their trade.

The APC state Chairman also faulted the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party of an impeachment plot against the governor saying that APC and people of Akwa Ibom were only waiting for March 2, 2019 to vote him out of office and not an impeachment.

He, however, warned that the governor should desist from instigating crisis or invading the house of Assembly or should face the full wrath of the law.

Okopido also blasted the governor for calling for the redeployment of the newly posted commissioner of Police to the state-CP Musa Kimo describing such call as an act of ‘irresponsible flippancy.’

“We have absolute confidence in the new commissioner of police who was posted to the state only few days ago. We have not seen any form of partisanship in what the CP has done. We trust that the CP will perform his duties creditably no matter the inducement and intimidation from Udom Emmanuel and the PDP.

“We know the CP’s offence as far as the governor is concerned, it’s because he has not gone to the Governor’s lodge to take instructions from Udom Emmanuel as his predecessors used to do,” he said.

He also alleged that the governor had been taking pleasure in insulting and abusing APC leaders particularly Senator Godswill Akpabio who left PDP for APC few months ago.

He said such mudslinging on the person of Senator Akpabio by Governor Emmanuel was an evidence of ingratitude and betrayal.

His words, “We have noticed the governor’s predilection to insult APC leaders especially his former master, mentor and Great teacher, Senator Goodwill Akpabio. The governor is simply presenting himself to the whole world as an Ingrate and a man who bites the finger that fed him.

“To our pain, Akpabio brought Udom and made him governor. But today Udom has turned around to villify, attack and insult the former governor. What a betrayer! What an Ingrate!”
