Anyone who kills in the name of religion is an agent of the devil – Umar, Taraba Acting Governor

Garba Umar

The acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, has described those behind different killings in the country as agents of the devil.

According to him, anyone who kills others in the name of religion would definitely face the wrath of God.

This is just as he assured the citizens of Taraba state that the government was determined to ensure peace and security in all parts of the state.

The acting governor who made this statement on Thursday at the Government House, Jalingo, during a stakeholders meeting on peace and security, said it was unacceptable for anyone to use violence as a means of self expression.

Umar noted that the meeting was necessitated by the senseless violence that has taken place in different parts of the state, including the recent one at Wukari local government area which led to high death tolls and the destruction of private and public property.

According to him, the meeting with the religious leaders of Christian and Islamic faiths, as well as local government chairmen and traditional rulers was to find possible ways to arrest the drift and to ensure that the unfortunate development was halted, saying that it must not stress further.

He stressed that no religion promotes violence and killing, hence all those who kill in the name of religion were working for the devil.

Speaking further, Umar noted that lack of job opportunities for the teeming youth was a contributing factor to the upsurge of violence, adding that strategies had been put in place to generate job opportunities in the state this year.

He disclosed that his administration was committed to providing improved standards of living across the state, saying that no project that was ongoing before the unfortunate air crash of October 25, 2012, has been abandoned.
