There is palpable anxiety among sports lovers in Osun State, as the state’s football club, Osun United Football Club joined other Nigeria National League teams for the maiden edition of the South West Pre-Season Tournament scheduled to take place in Lagos between Monday, February 6 and Thursday February 9, DAILY POST reports.
The Omoluabi Giants arrived Lagos on Sunday evening as efforts were in top gear to come out in flying colour in the new NNL season.
The pre-season tournament is the initiative of the South West Football Association Chairmen to get the clubs in the NNL ready for the new season.
Grouping for the tournament has been made thus; Ikorodu United, Crown FC, First Bank, and Afe Babalola FC in Group A, while Group B has Osun United, Gateway United, My People FC and AS Racine.
The head coach of the team, Duke Udi, said the team is getting ready for the 2016/17 Nigeria second tier league season stating that the tournament would enhance his side’s performance.
“We have some new players in our team who were impressive during our screening exercise. We want to use this event to size them and the entire team up as we continue preparation for the forthcoming league season,” Udi said.
DAILY POST gathered that Osun United will slug it out with Gateway United FC on Monday in the 5-day soccer fiesta by 2:pm at Onikan Stadium.
