A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress from Enugu state, Ejike Njeze, said corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government needed to be addressed to eradicate the long-standing suffering of the people.
He said there was need for anti-graft agencies to keep closer surveillance on the practices of public sector players to apprehend and stop corrupt elements before they execute acts of corruption.
According to him, the anti-graft war is an all-in-one solution to the myriad of problems plaguing the nation. Njeze told newsmen in Abuja that winning the fight against corruption was a key element in the manifestation of impact of Nigeria’s economic recovery.
He alleged that most civil servants, security personnel and public officers on their part were not honest in their duties
Njeze, therefore, said the most prominent national dialogue in Nigeria should be about proffering practical recommendations toward preventing graft and reducing other corrupt practices within the socio-political system of Nigeria as a lot of the issue that make-up the springboard of the call for restructuring or self-determination are products of corruption.
“Everything that could prevent a sincere government from fulfilling its mandate centres on corruption. They are all corruption-based. Therefore any serious government that wants to eradicate the long-standing suffering of the Nigerian people and ameliorate the infrastructural deficiencies of the nation must first and foremost address the issue of corruption.
“When the issue of corruption is comprehensively addressed, it is going to have a multiplier effect on the economy, the unity of the country, the orientation of people and other factors of progress amongst others. It would enthrone trust across board; the people will trust the government deeper and the government will trust the people in the care and maintenance of dividends of democracy provided for the benefit of all. The anti-graft war is the foundation of good governance.
“Sometimes, private sector players lure government workers, public office-holders and security personnel into ungodly collaborations that tend to divert potential or impending revenue of government.
“Some resources meant to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians are sometimes cornered with the collaboration of government officials and the country continues to reel in poverty and underdevelopment.” he said.
