The Delta State Anti-Cult Group in Bomadi local government has arrested eight suspects over alleged child trafficking and cult related activities in the community.
DAILY POST learnt that Sunday Paul, Henry Peter, Peres June, Ekufe Philip, European Turkio and Tboy Pulubale were alleged to have recruited young girls within the age of 12-17 for prostitution.
Leader of the Anti-Cult Group, Ebitonmo Ebiarede said that two other suspects Trust Glory and Nathaniel Marian were arrested following a tip off by one of the victims whom he said was hungry and she was being given the sum of N500 to buy food.
“We got the information when the girl that was given money to and buy food alerted her sister about the journey and her elder sister and other persons alerted and they were arrested and taken to Bomadi police station for further investigation”
Ebitonmo added that the suspects “have sent about 57 young girls to Ghana, Liberia and other countries for prostitution and seven of these girls are from Bomadi while the other 50 are from Urhobo, Kwale and Benin city.”
“In the cause of discharging our duties, we were able to arrest other six person at different locations belonging to different cult groups in the community with deadly weapons in their possession”.
He also noted that the suspects are all cooling off at Bomadi Police Station for further investigation.
Contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, Bomadi Divisional Police Headquarters was not on seat when our correspondent called.
A Police Source within the who craved anonymity confirmed report saying, “We will ensure this matter is tackled well to prevent reoccurrence.”
