Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam: Nigerians react to Dalung’s trip to Cardiff

Nigerians have reacted to the appearance of the Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung at boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Carlos Takam.

The minister and the Ogun State Deputy Governor Yetunde Onanuga were present when Anthony Joshua retained his world heavyweight champion title following his controversial defeat of Carlos Takam.

The two government officials also posed for a photo with Joshua and Dalung wrote a congratulatory message for the champion.

However, Nigerians on social media have alleged that the trip to the venue of the boxing bout was sponsored with public fund, stressing that it as a waste of taxpayers’ money which could have been used in establishing training centers for youths in Nigeria.

@nosa osawe “You should bury your head in shame. Shameless and disgraceful people. How has the sports ministry fared under your watch? How did you treat Bash Ali when he came looking for you? How did you treat our football team? God forgive your madness.

@Dajibawo “Who is going to hold dalung and d deputy gov accountable for the wasteful spending of tax payers funds? We should be asking how dalung would refund the monies spent on this trip to fund boxing infrastructures in Nigeria.

@peteflow “It’s ok for Nigerians to show their support for AJ but very stupid for NG sport minister to do the same with taxpayers money. get it

@princeAde-Eweka “Now I almost feel like puking after seeing this shamelessness. Mr. Solomon Dalung what contribution have you made to boxing in Nigeria or sports in general? You should be ashamed standing beside Anthony Joshua whom you owe nothing to his development. Bash Ali was in your office some time ago and your Police details treated him shabbily. May God forgive all of you for your acute stupidity.

@louischidube AJ does not represent Nigeria so stop this foolery of reaping where you did not sow and build a better countryWhy is he a Nigerian? Stop this childish and reckless action of wasting taxpayers money and promote our own

@esinma “Everyone wants to be associated with success. I can bet they have not put a call across or visited d sick Carl Ikpeme

@olumideishola06 “How many sporting outlet dey Ogun State and what’s their status? Fix our sport and we’d have many real Nigerian Joshuas spring up. Rubbish.

@riicojay30 “What was the minister doing cheering a British boxer , when our own sport suffer from lack of funds and proper planning.”
