The defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, in Anambra State has denied claims in the media by one Mike Igwilo that the party has pulled out from the All Progressives Congress, APC, merger ahead of the November governorship election in the state.
Former Acting chairman of the ANPP in Anambra State, Hon Christian C. Nnoli, in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka maintained that the party was strongly in the merger.
He described the media report as a blatant lie that could never stand.
It would be recalled that Igwilo had in a statement alleged that the ANPP pulled out from APC merger in Anambra as they were not consulted in the primary which produced Senator Ngige as the standard bearer, as well as in the activities leading to the merger.
However, in the statement, which was also signed by the former state National Ex-officio and Legal Adviser of the defunct ANPP, Amaechi Okeke and Barr Emma Chikaelo respectively, contended that the said Igwilo was never known as a member of that party, and never assumed the position of secretary of defunct ANPP in Anambra.
The statement read, “our attention has been drawn to the publication made in This Day, Newspaper of 06-09-2013, page 44 by one Mike Igwilo, claiming that ANPP Anambra State has pulled out of the APC merger ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state. It is a blatant lie.
“We, the members of the defunct ANPP hereby distance ourselves and revoke in strong terms, the claims of the so called Igwilo, we had long collapsed into APC, and there is no going back”.
The statement noted that the merger process was discussed at the national level, and argued that no state chapter of the party had the locu-standi to quit the merger.
They described Igwilos statement as malicious and obnoxious, which was intended to cast a negative image on the defunct ANPP in the merger arrangement, stressing that his utterances did not serve the good intrest of Ndigbo in Anambra.
