Another party wants Adamawa guber election annulled

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has asked the Adamawa State Election Petitions Tribunal to annul the governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state for failure of INEC to include the APP logo on the ballot for the election.

The APP became the second party to question the conduct of the Adamawa governorship election and to demand its annulment, following a much earlier complaint by the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD) which went to court over a similar complaint and sought similar reliefs.

In its petition before the election tribunal, the APP is seeking an order for the conduct of a fresh governorship election in the state for which the candidates of the party will be duly presented to the electorate.

The counsels to the APP, Barrs Obed Okwukwe Agu and Oluchukwu Nweke, are telling the Adamawa Election Petitions Tribunal headed by Justice Suleiman Akanbi that the entirety of the Adamawa State Governorship election is invalid by means of substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (As amended).

”The election is invalid by means of unlawful exclusion of Mr Bitrus Madeh as the valid candidate of the petitioner to contest the gubernatorial elections,” the petitioners said.

They added that Mr Bitrus Madeh and Audu Zanda as APP’s validly nominated and /or replaced governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the election were unlawfully excluded, and asked the tribunal to declare that the Adamawa State governorship election held on 9th March, 2019 is therefore invalid or voided “for substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.”

For the governorship election, parties have up to close of work on Wednesday to submit petitions. The tribunal is treating petitions arising from National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections as well as the governorship election.
