It was yet another tragedy in Jos, as another victim of the chlorine gas explosion, which occurred at the water treatment plant of the Plateau State Water Board in Jos, has given up the ghost, bringing the death toll to nine.
It will be recalled that eight persons reportedly died with more than 101 others injured and were admitted in hospital for treatment after inhaling excessive poisonous gas, when a cylinder, containing chlorine, exploded last Friday night.
The latest victim was identified as 18-year-old Samuel Nwosu.
Nwosu, who was resident at the Millionaire Quarters, just behind the water board premises, was rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos where he was treated and discharged.
However, his condition was said to have deteriorated few days after and was rushed to another hospital on Thursday, where he gave up the ghost.
His Father, Chief Larry Nwosu confirmed his death, adding that he has been buried.
The death of the young Nwosu has also raised fear among residents of the area, over the long time effect of the explosion on their health.
They were particularly concerned that the government had not conducted an environmental impact assessment to determine the long term effect of the gas.
