Three suspected armed robbers have been killed by a mob action in Akure, the Ondo State capital for attempting to steal two motorcycle.
The suspects were said to have met their waterloo as the owners of the motorcycles raised an alarm during a struggle with the robbers.
Some Youths around hospital road in Akure quickly mobilized to the scene and beat the three suspects to pulp.
Though the suspects were later rescued by the police, they died before getting to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police command has condemned the act; saying the law doesn’t permit jungle justice.
The command vowed to apprehend those who took part in the mob action against the suspects.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, Femi Joseph, while addressing the journalists, described the mob action as illegal.
He noted that the police would not condone such act, stressing that the perpetrators would be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
“At about 8am yesterday along hospital road, we were told a three man gang was caught while trying to steal an Okada. In the process, the owner raised an alarm which attracted some members of the public.
” In no time a mob descended on the suspects and beat them to a pulp. They sustained what I could described as third degree injuries.
“We tried to rush them to hospital but they died midway.”
Joseph said the police recovered from them a locally made pistol, they wanted to use to steal and a motorcycle they had earlier stolen.
“They are actually robbers but we are worried with the jungle justice meted out to them.”
“This is against the law. We will apprehend all those who participate in the jungle justice because this is highly condemnable and reprehensible.” Joseph said.
