The Bishop of Minna Diocese (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Daniel Yisa, has strongly frowned at the legalization of same-sex marriage by the United States of America (USA) Supreme Court.
He described it as, ‘Satan’s agenda and not of God’.
“The entire world of Christianity should know the basic truth and Bible stand on this issue: same sex-marriage is not our portion as a people and whoever wants to do that in his country should not quote the Bible as a reference point,” he said.
Speaking with newsmen in Minna during the centenary thanksgiving service to mark the 100 years of St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Church on Sunday, the cleric argued that gay is not Biblical or an African practice.
“If God hates it, we all must hate it”, Yisa said, as he admonished Nigerians not to be deterred by the recent approval by the American government of same sex marriage but hold on to the gospel truth about such trends.
“We must know the basic truth of the Bible. As far as we are concerned as Nigerians, same sex-marriage is not our portion and whoever has plans to do that in his country can do that but must not necessarily trace that to the Bible”.
Yisa said, “The issue is that, as a nation, Nigerians keep calling on God without meeting God’s conditions because there are certain things we are not supposed to do and there also those things we are expected to do if we have to remain God’s people”.
As Christians and members of the Anglican family, the clergyman reminded them that God had remained faithful to humanity hence the need for Christians to do their best to maintain relationship with God.
“We cannot continue to wallow in sin and immorality and then claim that He is our God.
“He is a righteous God, if we must serve Him, we must try to keep ourselves righteous as He is so that we can maintain that cordial relationship that He has established from the very beginning of world creation”.
