A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Anayo Onwuegbu has announced his intention to withdraw from the race.

Onwuegbu made the announcement few minutes ago at Awgu, venue of the Enugu West senatorial zone, PDP primary election.

DAILY POST recalls that in 2011, he equally battled Governor Chime over the PDP ticket. The contest later consumed the former national chairman of the party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Withdrawing from the race at Awgu, he said his decision was to stabilize the peace, which was gradually returning to the PDP in the State.

Similarly, Mr. Chinedu Onu has also announced his intention to discontinue the race.

He also announced his decision at Awgu.

With this development, Senator Ayogu Eze and Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are now the two major aspirants contending for the PDP guber ticket.

However, apart from the duo, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo, and a transport mogul, Evang. Samuel Onyishi, are still in the race as at the time of filling this report.

But a source told DAILY POST that pressures are equally being mounted on Senator Eze and other aspirants to step down for Ugwuanyi.

According to the source, “the party stakeholders are working hard to ensure that Ugwuanyi goes into the primary as a consensus candidate.

“Between today and tomorrow, Monday, when we shall have the primary, most of the aspirants, if not all, would have stepped down for him”.
