Anambra State workers under the Ministry of Information who were recently affected by the state retrenchment exercise have called on the government to revert their sack in due consideration of justice.

Details have revealed that about 140 workers of the State Broadcasting Service, made up of Radio and Television, were affected in the recent retrenchment exercise of the state.

The workers who had earlier staged a peaceful protest at the state secretariat, urged Governor Peter Obi to save them from such dismissal, as it would affect their lives and that of their family.

They alleged that there was a grand plot by some officials of the state Ministry of Information to victimize them.

The workers said that although, they had earlier been promised redeployment, some vested interests were working against it.

“We saw a notice asking that all staff that were affected by the downsizing exercise should report at the office of the Head of Service on March 2, 2013, a date that has already passed. “We got there but the Head of Service, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke told us that no such thing was discussed at the Executive meeting, so he could not have prepared redeployment for us when he has not been given order to do so. “Our attempt to see the commissioner for information failed as he refused to see us. This, we think is a deliberate ploy to unduly dismiss us”, one of them alleged. They pleaded with the Governor to stop the abrupt termination of their employment in the interest of equity and fairness which he epitomizes.
