A 26-year-old man, Elendu Wisdom, has been arrested for allegedly stealing sachet hot drinks and agidi; a locally made meal, prepared from corn flour, and other items from a shop in Awka, Anambra State.
The suspect was said to have recently returned from prison, after he was jailed for a similar crime, which bothered on breaking and entering shops.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, who disclosed Elendu’s arrest, said, “Today (Saturday), at about 5:15am, while on stop and search operation along Ifite road Awka, Police patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division accosted one Elendu Wisdom ‘m’ aged 26 years.
“Upon a search, suspect was found with house/shop breaking implements such as hammer, knives and a sawing device which were concealed underneath his wears in a bag.”
He said the suspect also carried with him; Assorted sachets of hot drinks, chamdor bottled wine, food stuffs, including agidi, cigarettes, and others.
He added that the suspect confessed upon interrogation to have stolen them from a shop at First Market, Ifite Awka at about 4am of Saturday.
He added that, “Scene was visited by Police detectives and the incident was confirmed by the shop owner, one Chinwe Madukegbu ‘f’, who put the value of the stolen items at #75,000.
“The suspect, a Plaster of Paris (POP) work designer, who hailed from Asa in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, but resided at Awkuzu in Oyi LGA, was recently released from the prison over a similar case.”
Haruna said the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution, subsequently.
