Anambra guber: Obaze reacts to his confirmation as PDP candidate

Oseloka H. Obaze, has reacted to his affirmation as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate for the November 18 election.

The National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the PDP yesterday confirmed Obaze’s candidature.

Chinwe I. Nnorom, PDP Head of Publicity, the NCC in a statement said “having critically examined all the petitions validly filed before it, has upheld the Primary Election that produced Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze as the Candidate of the PDP for the November 18, 2017 Governorship Election in Anambra State.”

“The Appeals for the August 28, 2017 Gubernatorial Election was heard on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Party’s National Secretariat, Abuja by the NCC Panel chaired by the National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON.

“To this end, the Leadership enjoins all Party members and supporters in Anambra State especially, the Aspirants, to put the issues regarding the Primary Election before, during and after behind them and work together as one indivisible family ahead of the November 18, 2017 Governorship Election.”

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday by his media team, Obaze expressed his joy at the development.

He said: “I am elated and thankful that the National Caretaker Committee of our great party, PDP, has upheld the outcome of the 28 August 2017 primary elections that produced me as the Candidate of the PDP for the November 18, 2017 Governorship Election in Anambra State.

“I thank God for this development. I salute the leadership of the party for listening carefully to all expressed concerns and dealing exhaustively with all related petitions before arriving at its findings. I salute all those involved in the ongoing conciliation efforts. Such due process measures reaffirm the democratic ideals and the vibrancy of the internal workings of our party and the leadership’s commitment to charting a new course.

“I acknowledged that some residual challenges remain. Our politics, party and processes are not perfect. As such, any perceived shortcomings of our electoral processes cannot be ignored. Once again, I am through this medium reaching out and asking my fellow aspirants who feel aggrieved to engage with me in constructive dialogue.

“I believe that prevailing differences can be easily resolved through dialogue and consultations. My message has always been consistent; the PDP umbrella is large enough to accommodate us all. As such, let us set aside our differences and work together to achieve victory for our great party come 18 November, 2017.

“We should consider the ramifications of PDP not wining the forthcoming elections. We certainly do not wish for Ndi Anambra to spend the next four years of their lives as they have over the past three years. Anambra deserves better and must forge ahead with the much-needed human capital development and good governance, which our people yearn for.”

Recall that Obaze was announced elected by Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi who conducted the primary election with his Awka Ibom counterpart, Emmanuel Udom.

Obaze was Secretary to the State Government of Anambra from 2012 to 2015.

He served under Governor Peter Obi and was re-appointed by incumbent Willie Obiano.

Obaze, the MD/CEO Selonnes Consult, served as a United Nations official, from 1991-2012. He was a member of the Nigerian Diplomatic Service, from 1982-1991.
