The Anambra State Traffic Agency, ASTA, office in Ogidi, Idemili Local Government Area has been shutdown indefinitely, by the State government over alleged killing of a commercial motorcycle rider.
Officials of the agency are being accused of being responsible for the death of a commercial motorcyclist.
Consequently, a committee has been set up to ensure that state levies for parks in the state were duly collected until the issue was resolved.
The Commissioner for Transport in the state, Dr. Chike Ohamobi, who announced the closure said it was necessary to give room for proper investigation of the circumstances that led to the Okada rider’s death.
Ohamobi however, faulted the reported death of a couple in the accident that claimed the life of the Okada rider.
He added that security agents had been directed to oversee activities in the motor parks in Onitsha and environs to maintain peace, stressing that government would not sit back and watch people take laws into their hands.
